The mountain is famous for its beautiful autumn foliage, consisting of beech, rowan, maple and other alpine trees. Mt Kurikoma is a volcano with the height of 1626 meters. Lake Showa was created after the volcanic eruption of 1944. In addition to the gushing hot water with sulphur content at the starting point of the trail, you encounter sulphurous steam gushing out throughout the trail.
