The flag of India consists of three horizontal stripes of equal size. The top stripe is saffron orange, the middle stripe is white, and the bottom stripe is green. In the center of the white stripe, there is a symbol called the Ashoka Chakra, which is a blue circle with 24 spokes. This symbol represents the eternal law or Dharma. Saffron orange symbolizes courage and sacrifice, as well as Hinduism. White represents peace and truth, as well as the minority of other religious groups. Green symbolizes faith, fertility, and Islam. Together, these colors represent India's religious and cultural diversity, as well as national unity. The flag of India was adopted on July 22, 1947, shortly before the country gained independence from British rule on August 15, 1947.
