Kos Town, Kos, Dodecanese Islands, Greece - January 22, 2012: The Gazi Hassan Pasha Mosque, in Lotzia Square in Kos Town's historic centre, is one of the most remarkable pieces of architecture in Kos. Built in 1786, it is also called the Loggia Mosque thanks to of the covered gallery visible on the north side. Stone from Roman ruins was used in its construction and it is believed that the mosque was built on the remains of the Byzantine Basilica of St. George. Nowadays closed and unused, it still bears the scars of WWII bombing.
