A rice field is ready for harvest in this May 2018 photo near Singaraja, Bali, Indonesia. The rice grains are fully grown and the clumps of rice grass are hand cut and laid onto the ground for subsequent thrashing to release the grains of rice. The manual harvest of rice is labor intensive but culturally important. Here men are using a hand sickle to scythe the stalks of the rice grass. It is a repetitive action which appears monotonous.
