U.S. Military Seizes Weapons In Iraq
BAGHDAD, IRAQ - FEBRUARY 26: A U.S. Army soldier displays a large weapons cache of deadly armor-piercing bombs of a type Tehran has allegedly smuggled to Shiite militias, February 26, 2007 in Baghdad, Iraq. U.S. Army soldiers from the 1st Cavalry Division found a workshop with enough components to build 150 "Explosively Formed Projectiles" of EFP's, on February 24, 2007, 15 miles north of Baghdad in Judidah, a Shiite village. The integral part is the copper dish that once fired forms into a ball and slices through U.S. vehicle armor. Earlier this month, a U.S. military spokesman said EFP's were made in Iran and smuggled to Iraqi Shiite groups as bomb components to be assembled and used on U.S. and Iraqi forces. The allegation sparked a controversy and was denied by Iran. One U.S. Army officer said February 26, "I don't think there's any way this can be tied to a government." He confirmed however that 19 120mm mortars, 13 122mm rockets and three bags of C4 plastic explosives found in the same weapons store had markings indicating that they were of Iranian manufacture.
