Claudette Colbert and Clark Gable in Scene

(Original Caption) 1934-Farmed out along with Claudette Colbert to Columbia, Gable went to work on an inconspicuous little comedy called, "It Happened One Night," in which, in a scene now famous, the heroine hung up a blanket representing the "walls of Jericho" when she and Gable were forced to share a room in a tourist cottage. The director, a young man named Frank Capra, kept telling the principals that the picture was a sure-fire flop. Instead, it cleaned up almost all the Academy Awards for the 1933-34 season, including an acting award for Gable. It also did away with the notion that he had to be a tough guy and set a pattern of more sympathetic roles for him.
