TOPSHOT-US-BODIES-EHXIBITION

TOPSHOT - Human body parts showing the blood vessels are seen during an advance preview 16 November 2005 for "Bodies...The Exhibition" featuring real humans that will be on display at the South Street Seaport Exhibition Center in New York starting 19 November. The exhibit will showcase 22 whole-body specimens and more than 260 organs and partial body parts that have been perserved using a technique called polymer preservation. The bodies, unclaimed or unidentified individuals from China, were obtained from the Dalian Medical University of Plastination Laboratories who prepare the skinned bodies and body parts via polymer preservation, also called plastination or plasticization, a process through which body water and fats are replaced with liquid silicone rubber. The laboratory supplies the bodies to human-anatomy exhibits around the world. (Photo by Timothy A. CLARY / AFP) (Photo by TIMOTHY A. CLARY/AFP via Getty Images)
