UNITED KINGDOM - SEPTEMBER 20: ‘Improvised tourniquet applied to Brachial artery'. Wills' cigarette card, 1913. One of a series of 50 'First Aid' cigarette cards issued by W.D. & H.O Wills. To arrest haemorrhage from artery below the middle of arm by a tourniquet, raise limb from the side. Make hard pad of a handkerchief and apply it to brachial artery. Carry a bandage round the arm and tie ends on the outer side of the limb. Between the halves of the knot insert a pencil, key, or stick, and twist until haemorrhage ceases.
