The Progress of Bloomerism or A Complete Change, 1852.

ENGLAND - JUNE 19: Satirical cartoon attacking the fashion for women to wear bloomers. Role reversal is taken to extreme lengths, men are left holding babies and an elderly man gently remonstrates with a small girl for smoking, while the women act and speak like men. Drawers, or long undergarments, first appeared in England around 1825 and were swiftly labelled an abominable invention which produces disorders in abundance. Pantaloons, later called pantalettes, were also introduced at this time. Bloomers, which appeared in the early 1850s, were associated with the American reformer Amelia Bloomer. They consisted of a knee-length dress over a pair of caftan-style trousers. From the magazine Punch. (Photo by SSPL/Getty Images)
