Quinoa, a good crop for harsher climes as it prospers in semi-arid conditions and high altitudes where rivals struggle, has nutrition experts salivating as it is chock full of protein and essential amino acids. The grain-like quinoa has been grown in the Andes for 7,000 years and Bolivia is now pushing it as a potential answer to global food shortages.
