President Harry S. Truman declares national emergency about the Korean War

[Audio not synchronized] President Harry S Truman speaks to the nation from the White House: "The government is establishing an Office of Defense Mobilization. I have appointed Mr. Charles E. Wilson to be the director. Mr. Wilson is resigning as president of the General Electric Company to take this job ..."; he lists the duties of this job, pauses, then reads next statement: "Because of all these things I have issued a proclamation declaring that a national emergency exists. This will call upon every citizen to put aside his personal interests for the good of our country ... we will not use our strength for aggression...we are deeply aware of the horrors of war."
