08302018 - Redding, California, USA: Devastation and damaged trees from the Carr Fire tornado along Buenaventura Boulevard in Redding. Redding firefighter Jeremy Stoke lost his life nearby on July 26, 2018 as the fire tornado jumped the river. The fire tornado was caused by ultra extreme fire behavior from the Carr wild fire, which roared through part of Redding and destroyed everything in its path. The fire tornado had winds of 143 miles per hour might be the most extreme example of fire behavior ever recorded in the United States. The Carr wildfire also destroyed more than 1000 homes, killed a firefighter, and a woman and her two grandchildren, (left 8 dead in total) and burned for over a month. The fire was one of several wildfires that began in California in July of 2018 and burned 229,651 acres in Shasta and Trinity Counties as firefighters struggled to contain it.
