Courage Needed For Fiery Festival In Ishikawa Prefecture

Teams of parishioners bearing Illuminated floats circled around a 7-meter-tall torch showering down sparks and ashes on July 1, 2016, Japan, during the first day of the Abare Matsuri festival held in Noto, Ishikawa Prefecture. Forty-one groups with floats took part in the festival held in the port town of Ushitsu to show off bravery to a divinity who protected the area from disease. Two portable shrines were carried into the sea and cast into flames on July 2, the concluding day of the festival.
