Interview with veteran of Cable Street battle Bernard Kops; Bernard Kops interview continues SOT - The important thing was to know they weren't alone, the Irish Dockers came along too / The police protected Moseley and said he had to march / The police could have banned the march under the Public Order Act / The children including Kops stood in this spot / The children threw marbles under the hooves of the mounted police officers / Some police officers fell over / One police officer rushed for Kops's brother with a truncheon and hit his brother on the head / Fortunately Kops's brother got his number although he didn't report it and the officer was from Arbor Square police station just down the road / Some of his cousins waited for him when he came out of the station one night and smashed him up / Girls, mothers sisters came / Police decided it was getting too dangerous and decided that Moseley could not walk through the East End / It was a fantastic victory / The Fascists went to Hyde Park / It was the end of the Fascists' attempts to provoke the Eastenders / It seemed to signify a change in the atmosphere / Moseley was trying to do exactly the same as was happening in Europe here gradually / But Cable Street seemed to be the beginning of the end, it was like the Rubicon had been crossed.
