Arsenal Women 0 - Bayern Munich Women 1: Boss Joe Montemurro reflects on defeat

Arsenal women’s manager Joe Montemurro reflects on his side’s 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich Frauen in the Emirates Cup. The inaugural women's match in Arsenal's annual pre-season tournament began as closely-contested contest with both sides sharing a number chances on goal in a game mostly contended by tight midfield battles.Bayern broke the deadlock after a well placed free-kick on the edge of Arsenal’s box was met with captain Melanie Lueoploz’s powerfully guided header into the top corner of Manuela Zinsberger’s net. This goal proved to be a turning point as Bayern instantly grew in confidence and piled further attacks onto the Arsenal defence. Arsenal’s brightess spell came just before half-time a brilliant run as they began to dominant the key battle from midfield. This gained Leonie Maier some space to play a clinical ball through Bayern’s defence with Katie McCabe’s brilliant run from the wing meriting at least an effort on goal. However, she fell just short of making clean contact as the ball went out for a goal kick. Jennifer Beattie followed up the pressure with a header just falling just wide before the half-time whistle. Arsenal were able to bring this monumentum into their second-half performance but ultimately failed to break through Bayern’s defence who held onto their lead for a 1-0 victory.
