Healthy real-life hobbit house inspiring construction of eco-friendly houses

KOSICE, SLOVAKIA - SEPTEMBER 20, 2023: Hobbit houses in the Slovakian city of Kosice stands out with their cozy and ecofriendly designs, inspiring construction of eco-friendly clay houses. The owner of hobbit houses in the Sosna Eco-centre Silvia Szabo described the houses as a combined work of nature and human. She mentioned how these type of houses is an education tool for many people and children saying: “This whole thing has been education. This means that children from pre-school age, mostly from primary schools, secondary school children, but also adults from the professions, so teachers and educators, come here. They come to learn about how to teach about climate and how to teach ecology in general.” Szabo said the eco-friendly design of the house greatly contributes to the overall quality of life. She said quality of the air is very healthy that she often forget going outside. “For me, this house is definitely the ecological aspect of the quality of life, because I live in a similar type of house myself, so I know that a lot of times I forget to go outside," Szabo explained. Szabo stated that since the house is made of mud and natural materials, it has good thermal insulation, adding: "Such a straw clay house has other characteristics when it comes to the insulation of the house. And thanks to the green roof and the plaster itself, the monthly bills are much lower." The Sosna Eco-centre has been operating as an ecological centre for 30 years.
