Festival Divinity Delivered To Kyoto Shrine On Horseback

A procession of about 250 Shinto priests and their apprentices escorted a newborn divinity mounted on a horse through Kyoto on May 12, 2016, Japan, during the Mikage Matsuri festival. The procession headed from Shimogamojinja shrine, a recognized UNESCO World Heritage site, and headed to Mikagejinja shrine, from where it returned with the divine spirit borne on a white horse. The event is a prelude to the upcoming Aoi Matsuri festival on May 15, which is considered one of the three most renowned celebrations in the ancient city.
