John Glenn prepares for orbital spaceflight before Friendship 7 mission

The clip consists of several shots of astronaut John Glenn as he prepares for the Friendship 7 mission that will make him the first American to orbit the Earth. The first shot is of Glenn wearing a full spacesuit, discussing something with scientists that stand on either side of him. He appears to be speaking about a piece of machinery that is barely visible on the right side of the frame. The second shot is a close up of Glenn as he is lying on his back, detaching tubes from his space helmet. The third shot is of Glenn on his back as he appears to be undergoing a simulation of a space flight. The third shot is a brief one of scientists standing with their backs to the camera. The name "MCDONNELL" is visible on one of their jackets. The fourth shot is of Glenn emerging from a spaceflight simulator. He is without a helmet but is otherwise wearing the full spacesuit. He is surrounded by scientists. The fifth shot is of Glenn walking out of what appears to be a life size replica of the cockpit of a space capsule. He walks past scientists towards the camera. The sixth and final shot is of Glenn sitting down, wearing a full space suit except for the helmet. Over this collection of shots, Glenn narrates: "We're embarking on a completely new field here of space science. And I'm happy and proud that I can maybe contribute a little bit in my own way in this new field. "Well looking back on our training getting ready for this flight, I can think of nothing at the moment that we would want to go back and change. It's been a real educational process and a confidence building program for all of us. For the more you learn about a subject, or the more into a subject you get, the more you know about it, the less you fear it."
